Application
for SYIS Facilitator Training
Revised July
2006
On behalf of the all of us in the ITP Facilitator
network, thank you for your interest in becoming an SYIS
Facilitator. Please read each section carefully, and submit
the required information by e-mail to International Training
Partners for consideration. Send to:
rbower@itpartners.org.
Section A: Requirements for Attending a Facilitators'
Training Workshop (FTW)
1. SYIS
Participation:
Participate in a five day Sharpening Your
Interpersonal Skills Workshop at least 90 days before the
Facilitators’ Training Workshop, and be recommended for this
ministry by the Facilitators of the SYIS workshop. If the
period between your SYIS and the FTW you hope to attend is
greater than three years, you will be asked to repeat the
SYIS before participating in an FTW.
2.
Support of Your Organization:
Your supervisor or other appropriate leader in your
organization must provide the following by e-mail:
a.) A
statement that your organization wants you to become
qualified to provide training in Interpersonal Skills in
your organization, and that it plans to use you as a
facilitator within your organization.
b.) A
commitment stating that you will be free to facilitate a
minimum of two workshops each year for other organizations.
This can be fulfilled by inviting people from other
organizations to participate in workshops you facilitate for
your own organization.
c.) Plans
for a Sharpening Your Interpersonal Skills Workshop hosted
by your organization, in which you plan to be a facilitator.
This workshop is to be held within six months of the date of
the Facilitators’ Training Workshop you plan to attend.
3.
Pre-Workshop Preparation:
a.) Look
over the ITP Web site at
www.itpartners.org, and familiarize yourself with
International Training Partners and its ministry.
b.) Read
the complete SYIS Workshop notebook, and complete all of the
Bible Studies, Self-Assessments, and Opportunities for
Growth for each module.
c.) Read
Learning to Listen, Learning to Teach by Jane Vella (Jossey
Bass, 1994).
4.
Additional Notes:
1) All of
the requirements above must be fulfilled, and a statement
sent to ITP no later than 30 days prior to the Workshop,
verifying they have all been completed. If this is not
received on time, your name will be removed from the
participant list, and your place will be given to anyone who
may be on a waiting list.
2.) ITP
receives more requests from people wanting facilitator
training than can be trained. Therefore, careful
consideration of all applications is made by a review
committee with priority given to those most able to fulfill
the qualifications for becoming a facilitator.
3) ITP
reserves the right to reject any application, and to
withhold Facilitator Intern status at the end of the
Facilitators' Training Workshop if the participant is deemed
not competent or otherwise unsuitable for this ministry.

Section B: Conditions for SYIS Facilitators
We thank God for the ways He is growing this ministry, and
for providing people like you to join us as facilitators. We
also take seriously the fact that He has entrusted this
ministry to us. For that reason, we highly value maintaining
the integrity and quality of the SYIS workshops. Therefore,
we want you to be aware of and agree to the following
conditions before participating in a Facilitators’ Training
Workshop. Please consider these carefully and feel free to
ask for clarification if needed.
1. Facilitators are trained by ITP to provide ITP approved
Sharpening Your Interpersonal Skills Workshops. SYIS
Facilitator categories are as follows:
A.

·
Successfully completes a Facilitators’ Training Workshop
(FTW)
·

of a Workshop Coordinator
B.

·

experience as a Facilitator under the supervision of
Workshop Coordinators
·
Following a
personalized plan for growth as a Facilitator
C.

·
Experienced
as a facilitator and able to coach others
·

·
Each SYIS
workshop is lead by a qualified Workshop Coordinator
D. ITP

·

·
Mentor
relationships with Coordinators and Trainers
2. All SYIS workshops must be coordinated through ITP before
final plans are made. ITP is to be notified as soon as
initial plans for a workshop begin, even if the workshop is
still tentative. ITP reserves the right to cancel a planned
workshop if minimum conditions for an effective workshop are
not being met.
3. Each SYIS Workshop is to be lead by a qualified Workshop
Coordinator. The Coordinator will serve as the lead
facilitator and is responsible for the overall direction of
the workshop. ITP will assign a Coordinator in consultation
with the workshop host or sponsor organization.
4. Facilitators are to do workshops only with other trained
and qualified ITP Facilitators. A minimum of two
Facilitators are required. A team of three Facilitators is
definitely preferred. In each case, one must be a qualified
Workshop Coordinator. In some workshops, a team of four
Facilitators may serve together as a means of providing a
coaching opportunity for Facilitator Interns. In such cases,
Facilitator Interns may be asked to cover all or part of
their expenses.
5. Facilitator Interns will work with (be coached by) a
qualified Workshop Coordinator in two or more complete
workshops. This is part of the normal facilitator training
process and is done to assure the effective transfer of new
facilitating skills and personal integration of the SYIS
skills and content.
6. Qualification as a Facilitator remains valid as long as
the Facilitator is active. Qualification as an Active
Facilitator will expire if two years pass between
facilitating workshops. A process of re-qualification may be
followed in consultation with ITP. In cases where
significant time has elapsed, participation in another
Facilitators’ Training Workshop may be required for
re-qualification.
7. SYIS Workshops are to be provided as complete 5 day
workshops, unless previous authorization from ITP is
obtained. In some special cases, Workshop Coordinators may
receive permission and assistance from ITP for providing the
SYIS workshop under a modified schedule or in a shortened
version.
8. Copies
of the SYIS notebook may be made only with prior written
permission from ITP, and they may be distributed only to
SYIS participants. The facilitator notes and other
facilitator materials may only be copied for use by ITP
Facilitators in ITP approved workshops.
